Initial conditions
The customer needed a solution for treating raw water from the Dyje River, which contains mainly colloidal particles and suspended solids. The aim was to ensure stable water quality for the cooling system through a process involving coagulation, alkalization, flocculation, solid separation, and subsequent filtration.
The project also required the delivery of the technological part of the chemical handling system for coagulant and polymer flocculant, as well as a complete lime handling system including the preparation and dosing of lime milk.
Solution – Technology supplied by ENVITES
ENVITES designed and delivered a complete technological unit consisting of the following components:
- Coagulation reactor – initial mixing stage for coagulant dosing
- Alkalization reactor – pH adjustment and water alkalization using freshly prepared lime milk
- Flocculation chamber – formation of stable flocs before the separation stage
- Lamella separator – efficient removal of suspended solids through settling on lamella plates
- Pressure sand filtration – final filtration before the water enters the cooling system
- Automated polymer flocculant (POF) preparation unit – mixing, dilution, and dosing of flocculant in response to flow rate and water quality
- Coagulant dosing station – precise volumetric dosing according to operating conditions
- Pumping equipment
- Instrumentation and control system
- Electrical system of the treatment unit
- Complete project documentation
Lime handling system
For the lime handling process, a new lime silo with a capacity of 40 m³ was delivered and installed for storing lime hydrate. The system also includes:
- Automated lime milk preparation – dilution of lime hydrate to a 4% solution
- Dosing system – continuous dosing of lime milk into the alkalization stage, controlled by online pH monitoring
The entire system is designed with emphasis on achieving the required process parameters, operational safety, and easy maintenance.
Operating mode and benefits
The system operates in fully automatic mode, with partial operator supervision. The control system is fully adapted to fluctuations in inlet water quality and flow rates. The treated water meets all parameters required for industrial cooling circuits.
Key benefits of the solution:
- Stable quality of treated water for technological applications
- Minimal operational intervention due to full automation
- Compact design suitable for sites with limited space
- Efficient handling and dosing of chemicals, including lime milk
